Delaying QR code bill for transport in line with Putin’s position

MOSCOW, Dec 13 (PRIME) -- Removing a bill on the mandatory use of COVID-free QR codes for transport from the parliament’s agenda for now is in line with President Vladimir Putin’s position that the people’s interests are a priority, spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

“The people’s interests are an absolute priority while considering such complicated bills,” Peskov said, adding that the work on the bill will be continued.

“This way or another, the work will be continued, the United Russia faction and the government are ready for scrupulous work, but so far the party shares this principal position of the president,” Peskov said.

According to the parliament’s lower house State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, the bill will be removed from the agenda as a result of a dialogue between the State Duma and the government, which took into account “the opinions of the regions and the people’ requests.”

Volodin in his Telegram post also referred to Putin speaking earlier about the necessity of studying whether the transport system is ready for the initiative so that the people’s rights are not limited.

The State Duma will consider the matter later on Monday. Initially, the house was to consider the first reading of the bill on Thursday.

Vladimir Vasiliyev, leader of the United Russia faction, said that the bill will be further developed and that the faction will support it if the document is improved profoundly.
